The company’s story began at the end of the 19th Century with the manufacture of custard powder. Under Krefeld’s traditional and very well-known brand name “tewells”, the Wellen family – the successors of the company’s founder Theo Wellen - produced custard powder, cake mixes and baking ingredients for over 100 years.

In March 1994 the owner bought an extruder from a long-standing business partner, employed five new members of staff, gave the company the name “RONDO FOOD” and began with the production of snacks for dogs and cats in Saxony-Anhalt. After the separation of this business from the food business in the year 2001, the premises in Krefeld were gradually modified to become a pet food facility. For the production in Saxony-Anhalt, RONDO FOOD erected a new factory in Halle (Saale) in 2003.

The success story is reflected in the company’s figures. Since Rondo Food was founded, around 60 million Euros have been invested in its expansion at the production facilities. The number of staff has grown with the company: it began in Saxony-Anhalt with five members of staff and has grown to include 600 employees at the sites in Krefeld and Halle; 440 members of staff work in Krefeld alone. In addition, young people undertake vocational business training and qualifications in the company every year.
